The at&t Champions Classic

Last week we had what looks like the last at&t Champions Classic at Valencia Country Club. The event and all that it brings will be missed. This year was won by a really neat man named Dan Forsman. Once again 54 holes wasn't enough to determine a champion. We had a one hole playoff and in the first playoff hole Mr. Forsman made a birdie on the first hole to wrap up our final event. There were some tremendous sub-plots during the week of the event.

A couple of weeks before the tournament I received a phone call from Bruce Litzke. He told me he was playing in the event and needed a caddy that could read the greens. My first thought was Chris Mulbrecht. I talked to Richie to make sure he could lose his employee for the week and when he said it would be great we offered Chris the job. He absolutly had a blast. Next time you see him around the Club ask him the stories.

The more obvious sub-plot of the week was watching Rich Contreras walk inside the ropes. I can't tell you how proud i was as an employee of Valencia Country Club to see our very own playing with the big boys. The amazing part for me was listening to the chatter on my radio from the organizers talking about the size of the crowds following Richie. They dwarfed all the others on the course. This bottom photo is Rich with the man Brian Fitzgerald that gave him the sponsors exemption. It really was amazing watching a man, friend and his family walk through their dream. I am attaching some photos and newspaper articles that went out that week for your enjoyment.

Inspiration

This is a story that ESPN did on a brilliantly brave individual that followed the PGA Tour last year. Watch the video and bring tissues. Here is a link to the video.(http://vodpod.com/watch/1165857-walk-on-espn-video)
