Winter Tee Time Policy

Winter weekend tee time procedures!

During the winter months at Valencia Country Club we face the challenges of frost delays and less hours of daylight. In the past we changed our weekend booking policy, and due to its success, we plan on continuing the effort. We are sorry for any inconvenience, but by implementing this policy we are able to accommodate more member play while minimizing your waiting times. This policy will start December 5th, 2009 and continue through the spring.

The following policies apply in the event of frost and non-frost course conditions:

1. No tee times will be taken for the weekends.
2. On the day call the Pro Shop at 661.287.1880 beginning at 6:00.

If there is Frost:
3. We will offer split tee times off the 1st and 10th tees, starting at 9:30 and continuing until 11:30.
4. The Pro Shop will give you a tee time and ask the names of players in your group. No shows will be charged a cart fee. There will be no guest play before 11:00 a.m.
5. Singles will be allowed to make a tee time. The Pro Shop will pair you up with three other players.

If there is No Frost:
3. There will be no tee times assigned.
4. As soon as 3 of the 4 players in your group check in you will be allocated a tee time.
5. Singles will not be given a tee time, but will either join existing groups or be paired together to form a group.
6. There will be no guest play before 11:00 a.m.

Unfortunately, during this time there will be No Ball Toss, however, we will make every effort to pair up singles into full groups. When to Post

Posting Scores
There are two basic principles behind the practice of posting scores. You must try to make the best score at each hole in every round, and you are required to post every acceptable score. Many golfers believe scores cannot be posted if an entire 9- or 18-hole round is not completed. That is not the case. All of the following are acceptable scores:
· When at least seven holes are played (7–12 holes are posted as a 9-hole score; 13 or more are posted as an 18-hole score).
· Scores on all courses with a Course Rating and Slope Rating.
· Scores in all forms of competition: match play, stroke play, and team competitions where each player plays his own ball.
· Scores made under the Rules of Golf.
· Scores played under the local rule of “preferred lies”.
· Scores made in an area observing an active season.

Adjusted Scores
If you skip a hole or don’t play it according to the Rules of Golf, you must post a score of par plus any handicap strokes you would receive. In other words: Your Course Handicap is 6. You cannot play the par 5 15th hole because it is under construction. The 15th is rated the third handicap-stroke hole on the golf course. For recording purposes, your score on the 15th hole is x-6. The ‘x’ indicates that you did not actually play the hole, and the ‘6’ is your adjusted score from par (5), plus 1 for your handicap. (If your Course Handicap is 2, the adjusted score would be a par (5). You would not get the ‘1’ for the handicap adjustment.)
If you play a mulligan, you should post par plus any strokes you would receive on the hole as your score, not the score that you made with the mulligan.
If you start, but do not complete a hole or are conceded a stroke, you must record the score you most likely would have made had you finished out the hole.

Upon arriving to Bandon Dunes it is imperative as a member of the PGA to be very organized. If you bring a group of people on a trip like this, especially if they are as diverse as the group that i brought, you must be organized. There is nothing that screams organization like putting the tee times on a bar napkin. Our first round of golf was at Pacific Trails and the Chamber of Commerce couldn't have asked for a better day. I think it was in the 70's and i know it was sunny. All the boys got their faces burnt. If you ever come up here i recommend getting massage after your round of golf by Camille. It is a day later and i still haven't come down from the high. This place is amazing. Words and pictures don't do the location justice. The staff is amazing and we have a great group of guys on this trip. These are a few photos of the round of golf. By the way it was Steve Bernard's birthday, so he is the one wearing the goofy hat on the first tee. What a trooper...get it?
From right to left we have Alex Pecel, John Burton, Bernard Chang, Randy Bragdon, Jason Goode, Steve Marks, Walt Krego, Regis Malone trying to hide in the back, Ben Delgadillo, Steve Bernard the birthday boy, Mark Savage, Craig Cliver, and Dennis Junker. We all shared that one set of clubs, Kemper priviledges. It was quite confusing having a Steve and a Bernard and a Steve Bernard on the trip. It was quickly realized that to get anything done we were just going to have to call S.B. "Nardo."




This was the scene of the first day. I can't believe i even brought rain gear and it looks like on our final day the day will be the same. This was the weather for the first two days so far. It looks just like L.A. The creature on the right is called a deer. He really didn't care that i was there. I hope everbody gets to have this type of experience in whatever they consider their hobby.

The derby was a Classic

The S.S. Minnow had a shorter tour than our derby's during the Classic. Our low handicap derby champion was determined Friday evening. It started with 21 teams on hole number 10. In our infinite wisdom we thought we would remove 8 teams on hole number 10. Unfortunately we had 7 teams chipping off for 3 spots and our derby continued in that vein. Each hole seemed to take about 45 minutes and by the time we got to 18 our final hole it felt more like the Donner Party than the Classic Derby. The survivors were Bruce Boyd and his partner Nick Pikor, Dustin Longest and his partner and father, Doug Longest and Chris Chase and his partner Doug Martinez who told his wife he was at a Promise Keepers conference, so I hope she doesn't read this. Shoot, my parents don't even read this what does he have to worry about. True to form we had a tie for 2nd and 3rd for our 4th chip off in 5 holes. Chris Chase and Doug Martinez made a fashionable par with Chris making a 3 foot knee knocker to win. The chip off was between team Longest and Boyd-Pikor. Nick chipped it to about 10 feet, and then Dustin coolly stepped up and almost made his. It really was a battle of attrition. The Thrilla in Manilla had nothing on this derby. Somewhere in the middle of 18 fairway Bruce Boyd was heard saying, "cut me Nick." Thanks for participating, it was a blast!!!

The at&t Champions Classic

Last week we had what looks like the last at&t Champions Classic at Valencia Country Club. The event and all that it brings will be missed. This year was won by a really neat man named Dan Forsman. Once again 54 holes wasn't enough to determine a champion. We had a one hole playoff and in the first playoff hole Mr. Forsman made a birdie on the first hole to wrap up our final event. There were some tremendous sub-plots during the week of the event.

A couple of weeks before the tournament I received a phone call from Bruce Litzke. He told me he was playing in the event and needed a caddy that could read the greens. My first thought was Chris Mulbrecht. I talked to Richie to make sure he could lose his employee for the week and when he said it would be great we offered Chris the job. He absolutly had a blast. Next time you see him around the Club ask him the stories.

The more obvious sub-plot of the week was watching Rich Contreras walk inside the ropes. I can't tell you how proud i was as an employee of Valencia Country Club to see our very own playing with the big boys. The amazing part for me was listening to the chatter on my radio from the organizers talking about the size of the crowds following Richie. They dwarfed all the others on the course. This bottom photo is Rich with the man Brian Fitzgerald that gave him the sponsors exemption. It really was amazing watching a man, friend and his family walk through their dream. Punta Brava

I have been very fortunate to see some remarkable places. Last month i got a phone call from a friend to see Tiger Wood's new property called Punta Brava in Ensenada. We flew out of Van Nuys in a private plane to Ensenada International where i met the queens army. It was quite intimidating having 6 guys in uniform approach with weapons. After we gave them a couple of bottles of wine we climbed onto one of Paul Allen's MD-600's. He had 6 and sold one to the Punta Brava Property.

This property is Tiger's first seaside golf course and it looks fantastic. 17 of the 18 holes will either have a tee or green on the ocean. You can see by the photos that the vistas are remarkable. His favorite courses are Cypress and St. Andrews, so he is bringing flavors of both to the course. There will be shared fairways and he has put back to back par 3's on the back nine. There are holes with forced carries and then straight up links style.

The property is a private property and they currently are looking for people that want to invest in the facility. The venture is backed by Red McCombs and is already paid for. That is unique for these types of ventures. Most of these types of facilities require the deposits and sales of the existing property to build. They are currently moving dirt and expect to be up and running early 2011. The helicopter pictured will take you and your 4some straight to the property from either Santa Monica or San Diego. They will have people drive your belonging, so you don't have to deal with TJ. I don't know if this is sheer genius or madness building at this time, but here are pictures to enjoy.
