The Weekend Release

Craig’s Weekend Release Program
For the week of May 3rd thru May 8th

Men’s Club Championship;
Once again the Santa Clarita Valley rivals Mars as the most inhospitable conditions in the known universe.  I am really starting to wonder why the founders of this area stopped here.  I am starting to think they stopped here to wait out the storm and haven’t left!  I am worried about the sanity of all of us that call this place home.  We competed our Club Championship among winds that turned trees into toothpicks and sent branches javelining through the air.  I honestly found myself in the midst of a discussion about what was better to live through, and earthquake or tornado\hurricane.  When that becomes the standard of living, something isn’t right.  Lest i digress, we did have a Club Championship this weekend.  After our first day of wind we saw Peter Cho and Dean Herrington leading the event.  Going into Saturday morning, Chris Chase and Dave Fish finished out the lead group.  Saturday showed us a little more mild weather, the wind only gusted to 30 mph.  After Saturday’s rounds the final group in the Gross Division was Forrest Blake, Gary Chiurazzi, Joe Millin and Armando Rand.  In the Net Division there were only 3 rounds of par or better which were brought to us by John Gedney, Michael Keefe, and Akihiro Komine.  Sunday found us with much better weather, but the course had dried out and the greens showed their teeth.  In the final round of the Net Division Bill Rose came from behind finishing at 1 under for the event and captured this year’s Championship followed by Ed Aguilar and John Gedney.  The Gross Division was truly a battle of attrition.  Forrest Blake made a 3 footer on 18 to hold off Eric Findon and Dean Herrington who both had low rounds on Sunday.  Thank you to all who came out and participated this weekend.  Photos and results will be posted on the website and blog.

Japanese Tsunami Fundraiser;
This is your final week to sign up for the Japanese Fundraiser.  Thank you to all that have signed up and to those of you that have sponsored your services to make this event very special!

The Classic Member Guest;
Well gentlemen, the invitations for “the Classic” went out on Saturday.  “the Classic” is our biggest annual event here at Valencia Country Club.  It is the 16th thru the 18th of June, Father’s Day weekend.  We will be receiving sign-ups until the 15th of May.  There will be a very special prize for the Net Champions this year.  Please make sure that you get your invitations in to us as this event will fill up.  If you don’t receive and invitation in the mail over the next couple of days, please stop by the shop and grab one.  We do have a few extras.

Weekday Junior Programs;
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we have programs scheduled for the Valencia Country Club Juniors.  Tuesday is for the age groups 4-7, Wednesday is for age groups 8-12 and Thursday is for those children that are ready to get out on the golf course with the Pros.  All of these programs are great opportunities for the Juniors to get to know each other and build friendships for life.

Multi-Club Demo Day;
As many of you may have seen we will be having a massive, enormous, vast, great, colossal, mammoth, jumbo, astronomical, elephantine, monumental, prodigious, gigantic, monstrous, immense, ginormous...big Demo Day on Saturday.  All of your favorites Golf Club Companies will be here.  It will be open to the public so come early if you are in the market for some new equipment.
