The S.S. Minnow had a shorter tour than our derby's during the Classic. Our low handicap derby champion was determined Friday evening. It started with 21 teams on hole number 10. In our infinite wisdom we thought we would remove 8 teams on hole number 10. Unfortunately we had 7 teams chipping off for 3 spots and our derby continued in that vein. Each hole seemed to take about 45 minutes and by the time we got to 18 our final hole it felt more like the Donner Party than the Classic Derby. The survivors were Bruce Boyd and his partner Nick Pikor, Dustin Longest and his partner and father, Doug Longest and Chris Chase and his partner Doug Martinez who told his wife he was at a Promise Keepers conference, so I hope she doesn't read this. Shoot, my parents don't even read this what does he have to worry about. True to form we had a tie for 2nd and 3rd for our 4thchip off in 5 holes. Chris Chase and Doug Martinez made a fashionable par with Chris making a 3 foot knee knocker to win. The chip off was between team Longest and Boyd-Pikor. Nick chipped it to about 10 feet, and then Dustin coolly stepped up and almost made his. It really was a battle of attrition. The Thrilla in Manilla had nothing on this derby. Somewhere in the middle of 18 fairway Bruce Boyd was heard saying, "cut me Nick." Thanks for participating, it was a blast!!!
