The Weekend Release

Craig’s Weekend Release Program
For the week of August 9th thru August 14th

Tuesday;
This Tuesday is Ladies Day.  Please keep your golf until after the Ladies, especially if you have guests.

Senior Club Championship;
The results are in and after a great weekend of course conditions, weather and golf we have our Senior Club Champions!  The website is full of photos and standings.  After a great first day of golf we had some fresh faces in the mix with guys like Randy Sain, Bob Witkowski,  Monte Sveiven, Robert Schwartz and Scott Krivis!  Sunday was reckoning day!  In the Net Division we had last years’ Player of the Year make a move.  Randy Bragdon played a great round and wound up finishing 3rd one shot back of Steve Bernard who also had a fantastic Sunday of golf.  The most consistent golfer of the weekend was Craig Ryan who held won by a shot in the Net Division.  In the Gross Division the leaders were all playing together on Sunday with Joe Millin starting the day with a couple shot lead over Dick Rai and Peter Cho.  It was back and forth all day and standing on the tee of 18 Millin had a one shot lead over both Rai and Cho.  Millin was on the front edge of the green in regulation with a 25 bender to the right red pin.  Rai was about 10 feet above the hole in regulation.  After Cho had locked up his par, it was Millin’s turn to test his touch under pressure.  With one of the better putts i have seen he almost holed it leaving himself a gimmie for par.  Now it was up to Rai to make his birdie to send the Championship into a playoff.  When his putt slid by the trophy was Millin’s to hold.  Rai and Cho both finished a shot back and Rai finished second by having a better final nine score.  Congrats to all of the contenders and thank you for a great weekend!

Bocce Ball;
ONE WEEK LEFT!!!  Bocce Ball is making it’s return to Valencia Country Club.  The sign ups are just outside of the Pro Shop.  Please call us or sign up to get your game on.  It will be on Wednesday starting the 17th of August running for 6 weeks.

August Guest Day;
Gentlemen, next Saturday the 20th, we have a Member Guest scheduled.  We haven’t had one of these on a Saturday for a long time.  Please bring one Guest and sign up on the board in the locker room or call the shop.  It will be a 9:00 shotgun so come on out and have a great day on this golf course.

Junior Team;
With two weeks left in the Junior Team Play our kids lead both Oakmont and Annandale and for the first time will represent our Division in the Playoffs.  Thank you to all the parents and kids for participating.  The website is updated with current standings and photos!  Great job Jill!!!

Demo Day;
Saturday the 13th we have a Demo Day on the range from 9-2.  The companies will include Mizuno, Fourteen, Honma, Dawa and Yonex.  There will be special Member Discounts for this one day only on this equipment.  Please come out and check out the new stuff!!

The President’s Cup;
After a tremendous season of matches we have determined our other Captain for the Grupp Cup who will compete against the team assembled by Forrest Blake.  Congratulations to Pablo Suarez for being a buzz saw in this season’s matches.  Coming from the Secretary Flight, Pablo made short work of his matches in the flight.  He worked his way through the flight by beating Dave Rinell, Henry Morita, Lou Suarez and eventually beat Will Whitehead in the Flight Final.  He then had to get by James Song, who won the Treasurer’s Flight.  He then waited to see who he would meet in the Finals and it came down to a match between Harry Thomas(President’s Flight Champ) and Doug Schiermeyer(Vice President’s Flight Champ).  After beating Doug, Harry met up with Pablo in the final.  It truly was a battle of the Caddie.  With Gary Chiurazzi on Harry’s bag, Pablo pulled Rich Contreras out of his perverbial bag and Harry didn’t stand a chance.  The match ended on 14!  Congratulations Pablo for a job well done!  Stevie Williams made $140,000 for his work last week, what did Richie make?

The Weekend Release

Craig’s Weekend Release Program
For the week of July 26th thru July 31st

Around the Club;
We wrapped up the Wednesday Night Match Play last week.  Thank you all for participating.  We have updated the final standings and posted tons of photos on the website.  Please check it out if you have time.  It is under Golf Events in the Member’s Section.  Congrats to team Rick Smith who is our Champions.  His team consisted of Gerry Brown, John Gunner, Will Whitehead, Art McKeon and Nick Hale.  We also had a very successful Couples Twilight Beach Theme with over 30 participants.  Thanks to all of you for joining us.

Tuesday;
Spoiler Alert!  This Tuesday will be busy.  We have our regularly scheduled Ladies Day where we would hope you would keep the majority of your golf until after 10:00ish.  Well in addition to the Ladies, we are hosting the Juniors this week.  The last 2 weeks we have finished in 1st and 2nd.  It looks like the season will come down to us and Oakmont.  Well, this week we will have the home course advantage and will need the tee to be closed from 12:30 until 2:00.  This is the one week that we host this great experience for the kids.  Thank you for your understanding.

Handicap Committee;
Our Handicap Committee meets on a regular basis and in order for us to maintain our standing with the USGA and SCGA we “must” do a few things that i would like to share.  We have seen a lacking in posting of scores and many will be receiving letters and eventually penalty scores.  Here is our Club’s Compliance Checklist for your edification:
Meet the USGA definition of a golf club.
Have a Handicap Committee composed mostly of members and chaired by a member.
Require the posting of all scores made at home and away.
Require use of USGA procedures to adjust hole scores before posting.
Require that nine-hole scores be posted.
Insist that the principles of the Rules of Golf be followed.
Follow the revision schedule and posting season of the authorized golf association having jurisdiction in the region.
Ensure that all acceptable scores are entered correctly.
Perform computations and adjustments in accordance with the USGA Handicap Formula.
Make current scoring records and a Handicap Index listing of all members readily available for inspection by others.
Reduce on increase a Handicap Index of any player whose handicap does not reflect the player’s potential ability.
Notify an authorized golf association when permanent changes have been made to the golf course so that the association can issue an new USGA Course Rating and Slope Rating.
Include the letter “L” after local handicaps, which exceed the USGA maximum limits of 36.4 for men and 40.4 for women.
Utilize the current USGA Course Rating and Slope Rating issued by an authorized golf association.
Have a representative from the golf club participate in a USGA Handicap Seminar including passing a test exhibiting knowledge about the system.
Have a signed license agreement in place with a local authorized golf association or the USGA prior to issuing a Handicap Index.

Bocce Ball;
Bocce Ball is making it’s return to Valencia Country Club.  The sign ups are just outside of the Pro Shop.  Please call us or sign up to get your game on.  It will be on Wednesday starting the 17th of August running for 6 weeks.

Pace of Play;
Pace of play is becoming an issue again at Valencia Country Club and unfortunately those of you that play in 5-somes have a bit of a target on your back.  Our policy is regardless of the number of players in your group, you must keep up with the group ahead of you.  Please respect this rule.  Our first remedy will be to mandate carts in the 5-somes.  I feel like that is a callow solution to a simple problem.  Please keep pace with the group ahead of you!  Thank you!  By the way if you are reading this and being offended, then i wasn’t talking to you, i was talking to that other group.

Schedule of events for the week of July 26th thru July 31st:
